Family Fun

Day 1 Windhoek 45km

After your arrival at the International airport, a Sense of Africa representative will welcome you for a detailed briefing for your African adventure. After having collected your vehicle, travel to Windhoek, where your accommodation lies in a peaceful suburb with a spacious garden and a sparkling pool. In the afternoon you may wish to explore the city centre, where African artifacts, colonial buildings and typical Namibian hospitality await you. In the evening
you have a selection of restaurants to choose from.

Day 2, 3 Kalahari Desert 270km

After a leisurely breakfast you travel south into the Kalahari Desert, marked by endless, red vegetated sand dunes inhabited by animal
species such as Oryx, Zebra, Springbok, Ostrich and Bat-eared foxes. Your lodge lies in the midst of this sandy expanse, which poses as an exceptional playground for children. Besides tame Oryx and Springbok, you will be able to witness a cheetah feed on the farm (optional). Your bungalow is fitted with a sleeper
couch, in case the children want to sleep close
to you on their first African evening.

Day 4, 5 Fish River Canyon 440km

This morning you travel further south into an area dominated by age-old quiver trees as well as a primordial landscape of gigantic dolerite formations that serve as the perfect location for a session of “hide and seek”! Your lodge,situated further south close to the Fish River Canyon, offers scenic horse trails, wonderful walking trails and a Self Sufficiency Centre with cows, pigs, chickens and vegetable plantations.

Day 6 Tiras Mountains 330km

After breakfast you can visit the Fish River Canyon, the second largest canyon on earth, before travelling west to the edge of the Namib Desert. On your guest farm, the family will offer distinctive Namibian hospitality and home cooked meals. On an optional game drive you have the opportunity to experience some of Namibia’s most pristine views onto the Namib Desert plains. While you enjoy a sundowner drink in the huge garden, the kids can entertain themselves with the family pet or accompany the farmer to visit the goats, sheep, horses and donkeys that live around the cosy farmhouse.

Day 7, 8 Sossusvlei Region 135km


Traveling to your next lodge after breakfast, visit the imposing Duwisib Castle, built in 1908. Your lodge for the next two days allows you to get close with wild cats such as leopards, cheetahs as well as caracals. On the following morning, visit the awe-inspiring section of the Namib, where majestic apricot coloured dunes sew into the cloudless blue skies. This is the largest sand box on earth, and will undoubtedly have the kids screaming with delight when
clambering up and down the many dunes!

On day 9 either travel back to Windhoek,

or continue to Swakopmund for
the northern Kiddies Adventure or

Day 9, 10 Swakopmund 440km

After another spectacular sunrise travel along rugged yet liberating scenery to Swakopmund, an idyllic town wedged between the Atlantic Ocean and the sand dunes of the Namib Desert. Your hotel is situated close to the beach. The bathing area is sheltered and very calm and right next to a playpark. Other fun activities include marine cruises (accompanied by seals, sea birds and dolphins), camelrides, quadbiking or sandboarding.

Day 11 Damaraland 210km

Your journey continues north along the Atlantic Ocean to Southern Africa’s largest seal colony at Cape Cross, where thousands of seals
frolic in the crashing waves. Afterwards, travel to your lodge situated at the foot of the Brandberg, Namibia’s highest mountain. In the afternoon the kids can enjoy a ride in a typical Damaraland Donkey Cart. Experience the “Burning Mountain” at sunset while enjoying a walk through this geologically diverse landscape.

Day 12 Damaraland 245km

After breakfast, travel to Twyfelfontein, a National Heritage site that boasts the largest open-air rock art gallery in Southern Africa. Let the kids try to copy some of the engravings in the colouring book and see the similarity between the work of the bushmen shaman’s and your own little treasures. At your lodge enjoy interaction with a local himba village on the property. A small play park is also available for the children.

Day 13 Etosha National Park 190km

This morning you proceed north to the Etosha Park, one of Africa’s largest and most diverse wilderness areas. During your two-day
adventure, you have the possibility to spot 114 different animal species that live in this park! During the hottest part of the day you can stop over at one of the three rest camps in order to enjoy lunch and cool off in the large pools.

Day 14 Etosha National Park 300km

At sunrise the gates to the park open up, allowing you to experience the conundrum of animals and birds greeting the new day. You have the entire day available for extensive game drives, and have ample time available to wait at a selection of waterholes for different game species coming to the water to quench their thirst. In the afternoon you travel to your lodge, situated in close vicinity to the park.
Etosha Aoba Lodge (B)

Day 15, 16 Otjiwarongo Area 250km

After breakfast, travel south to your lodge, situated in one of Namibia’s best farming areas. Here you and your family can participate in horse trails, volleyball games, nature drives or scenic walks, while the huge lawn and sparkling pool serve as an excellent hang out during the heat of the day. Attractions that are found close to your lodge consist of a crocodile farm in Otjiwarongo or cheetah programs at the Cheetah Conservation Fund.
Kambaku Lodge (B, D)

Day 17 Windhoek Area 340km

After a relaxed breakfast, you travel south to Windhoek via Okahandja, where you can visit the large woodcraft markets that line the streets. Your lodge for the evening is situated just south of Windhoek in a picturesque valley of the Auas Mountains. Apart from scenic walking trails that lead you past a crocodile as well as a leopard blind, you can enjoy a magnificent sundowner from the huge garden of your lodge.

Day 18 Windhoek Area

After breakfast, either travel to the International Airport for your flight home, or travel to a private wildlife sanctuary to participate in exhilarating activity packages. (B)
