Magical Kalahari

Day 1, 2 Kalahari Desert 450km

Your adventure starts in the Kalahari Desert,
the largest sand mass on earth stretching
north over no less than 9 African countries.
Your lodge is situated close to Ghanzi on a
private nature reserve, promising you two
days of excellent game viewing experiences,
including the chance to see the rare and
endangered black rhino. You have the chance
to visit resident bushman communities at night
to learn more about their traditions and culture
while joining them in their dances around the
campfire. Your luxury tents all offer you a
stunning view onto the endless plains and the
personalized service of the camp owners and
staff will ensure a memorable experience.
Motswiri Lodge (D)

Day 3 Makgadikgadi Pans 280km

After breakfast, travel south through the red
sands of the Kalahari to Kang, where your
lodge for the night is situated on yet another
private game reserve. In the late afternoon you
have the opportunity to explore the wilderness
area on a guided game drive and view animal
species such as giraffe, waterbuck, zebra,
eland, hartebeest, wildebeest, kudu, impala
and maybe even leopard, cheetah and brown
hyena. The area belongs to the original hunting
grounds of the Kalahari Bushmen, who still live
in the area surrounding the game reserve.
Kalahari Rest Camp (B)

Day 4 Kgalagadi Park 500km

This morning you travel west into the Kaa
Kalahari Concession area, one of the last great
unfenced wilderness areas of Southern Africa.
Travelling along natural clay pans, it offers
some of the most beautiful Kalahari scenery
imaginable and also awards you with excellent
game viewing opportunities when the pans
have water. Soon you reach the gate to the
Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park, the magnificent
park being the focal point of your adventure
for the coming two days. Travelling along the
Nossob Riverbed and through magical dune
landscapes, you reach your lodge in the
southern section of the park.
Cool off in the sparkling pool and enjoy dinner
in the African-style restaurant.
Twee Rivieren Camp (B)

Day 5 Kgalagadi Park

The entire day is spent exploring the Kgalagadi
Transfrontier Park, a nearly 38’000km² large
nature reserve brought about by the unilateral
agreement between the governments of South
Africa and Botswana in 1999. Explore this
ecological wonderland with its red dunes, vast
grass plains, dry river courses and isolated
watering holes that support a large variety of
free-roaming game species. Only some animals
inhabiting the park consist of oryx, springbok,
giraffe, wildebeest and steenbok, while lion,
cheetah, bat-eared fox and hyena abound.
The park is renowned for its exceptional bird
life, giving you the opportunity to view some of
Africa’s largest raptors from close by.
Twee Rivieren Camp (B)

Day 6 Kalahari Desert 420km

After breakfast you travel north, exiting the
park through the recently opened Mata Mata
gate into Namibia. Your route takes you
northwest along the dry course of the Nossob
River and the Namibian section of the Kalahari
Desert to your lodge, nestled between the red
dunes and white clay pans of the Kalahari like
a life-giving oasis. In the late afternoon you
have the opportunity to experience this part
of the desert on a nature drive, marvelling at
the setting sun from the vantage point of a
dune while enjoying a refreshing drink. After
the excursion you return to the lodge for an
unforgettable dinner.
Kalahari Anib Lodge (B)

Day 7 End of tour 170km

This morning you depart the Kalahari Desert
and travel north via Rehoboth to Windhoek,
the capital city of Namibia, where the tour
ends. (B)
Alternatively, you can travel west to
Sossusvlei in the Namib Desert with the
Sand and Sea tour.
